I was present while he talked to the 24 hour nurse on the first night and he spoke about what he was taking. I wanted to find a little more about it so here's what i found.

Dextromethorphan or DXM - DXM is actually produced from a derivative of morphine, but it is not an opiate and has a different mechanism of action from opiate drugs like Vicodin, OxyContin, heroin, morphine, etc. DXM has an affinity for receptors in the brain that are specialized for the excitatory neurotransmitter NDMA (N-methyl-D-aspartate). It is an antagonist for NDMA, meaning it inhibits the actions and release of NDMA, and this action accounts for its efficacy in suppressing the coughing reflex.

  • The first plateau: The most basic level of abuse occurs when individuals take between 100 mg and 200 mg. The DEA reports that dosages at this level result in feelings of stimulation.
  • The second plateau: The next plateau occurs when individuals take dosages between 200 mg and 400 mg. The most common effects of using the drug in this dosage range are visual hallucinations and euphoria.
  • The third plateau: The third plateau occurs at dosage levels between 300 mg and 600 mg. Individuals taking DXM at this level will experience hallucinations, euphoria, significant perceptual distortions of objects in the visual field, and significantly impaired motor functioning and coordination.
  • The fourth plateau: The effects at this plateau occur in individuals who take more than 600 mg of DXM. The effects include extreme sedation, hallucinations, and dissociative effects. Dissociative effects occur in individuals who have experiences where they feel that they are leaving their body or that things around them are not real.

Diphenhydramine or DPH - When diphenhydramine is abused it produces relaxation, a sense of mild euphoria, and hallucinations – all effects that those who abuse this medication are looking to obtain.

Physical effects of diphenhydramine addiction

  • Excessive drowsiness
  • Constipation
  • Blurred vision
  • Dizziness
  • Tightness in chest (known as angina)
  • Dry mouth
  • Increased heart rate
  • Inability to urinate
  • Nausea
  • Jitters
  • Overall sense of physical weakness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Organ damage to the kidneys and liver
  • Poor coordination

One of the most significant physical side effects is sedation. A normal dose of diphenhydramine can create driving impairment that equals a blood alcohol level of 0.10. That’s higher than the blood alcohol limit associated with most state drunk driving laws, which is 0.08.
Psychological effects of diphenhydramine addiction
  • Short-term memory loss
  • Problems concentration
  • Poor focus
  • Anxiety
  • Mood swings
  • Impatience
  • Confusion
  • Nightmares
  • Depression
When diphenhydramine is abused in high doses, hallucinations and delusions can occur. Hallucinations refer to seeing someone or something that is not there, while delusions occur when someone is adamant in a thought, belief, etc. that is untrue and not associated with reality. For example, someone who is experiencing a delusion might believe that someone is following/spying on them when in reality, that is not occurring at all.
Other lesser-known symptoms associated with diphenhydramine addiction include itchy skin, flushed skin, increased body temperature, extreme restlessness, and erectile dysfunction. It is also extremely dangerous for people who have preexisting kidney problems to use this drug, never mind abuse it. Additionally, diphenhydramine addiction has been strongly linked to the development of dementia, especially in those older individuals who abuse this medication.

We also found some blue tablets 


A quick internet search let us know that these were Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine

Dextroamphetamine is a Schedule II controlled substance that carries a high risk of abuse and addiction. Stimulants like dextroamphetamine are often abused for their ability to produce desirable feelings such as:

  • Increased energy.
  • Heightened focus.
  • Increased alertness.
  • Suppressed appetite.
  • Feelings of euphoria.
Abuse of dextroamphetamine occurs when users take the drug in excess amounts or utilize alternate methods of administration (i.e., crushing and snorting or injecting it) with the intent of eliciting more rapid and intense effects. Abusing dextroamphetamine has the potential to cause serious physical and mental health symptoms ranging from paranoia to cardiovascular failure.

Last thing we found were Morning Glory seeds which is also know as LSA. The seeds of many species of morning glory contain a naturally occurring tryptamine, lysergic acid amide (LSA), which is chemically similar to LSD and has similar effects. Seeds are used for their strong psychedelic or hallucinogenic mental effects
